Seglo vs MoeGo: the record, and the day

24 August 2026 · 6 min read

MoeGo is the best record of a grooming business you can buy. Seglo is trying to run one. That is the difference, and most of what follows is a consequence of it rather than a feature either of us is missing.

Full disclosure: we build Seglo. Everything below is quoted from MoeGo’s own help centre, pricing and terms, read in August 2026, and where they are ahead of us it says so.

What MoeGo is best at

Keeping the record, and it is not close. Vaccinations carry an expiry date, a certificate and a coloured flag on the pet’s card. There are incident logs and pet codes. The report library downloads. Calls are recorded and kept for thirty days. It imports from a spreadsheet or a database file with three years of history and exports your clients and pets whenever you want them.

That is a decade of work and we have not done it. If a council inspection, an insurer or an audit is the reason you are shopping, buy MoeGo and stop reading. Everything below assumes the record is not your problem.

They keep the record. We run the day.

This is where the two stop being versions of the same product, and it is worth separating the differences that are features from the ones that are not. A feature can be shipped next quarter. The rest cannot.

MoeGo is built around the appointment: who is coming, which dog, what was done last time. Seglo is built around the hours the appointment takes up. A groom is not one block of time. It is a person bathing, a machine drying, a person finishing, and only two of those three need anybody. Software that stores the booking beautifully still has nothing to say about the forty minutes in the middle.

The same split runs through the phone. For MoeGo, communication is a feature next to the record. For Seglo it is the same layer as the record, which is why the dog is on the screen before anyone says hello.

Two hours of drying time

This is the strongest reason to choose Seglo and it has nothing to do with having more features.

A service in Seglo splits into steps, each with its own skills and its own occupancy, and a step that needs nobody is marked as one. The dog is on the dryer, the groomer is not, and the diary knows the difference: those minutes come back as time you can book. MoeGo publishes no equivalent, because in a system built on appointments the appointment is busy for as long as the dog is there.

The number they give you cannot take calls

Worth knowing before you build a habit on it. MoeGo assigns you a number for messaging, and their documentation is plain about what it is: “this number can be used for sending and receiving messages only, no phone calls are available.”

So your texts go out from a number your clients have never seen and cannot ring back. It is not the number on your shopfront, and it never becomes the number on your shopfront.

In Seglo there is one number. Calls arrive on it, messages arrive on it, and the finished groom goes back down it as a photograph rather than a link. Why that is rare in Australia.

And then the phone rings

MoeGo has an answer and it is not finished being one. Their help centre: MoeGo Calling is “currently available to select customers on the Ultimate plan”. It is a beta you are invited into, on the top tier, priced on neither pricing page. Credit where it is due: when it does ring, it opens the client’s profile, which is the right instinct and the same one we had. And its AI transcribes rather than answers.

Seglo answers on the number already on your shopfront, on any device your team carries, with the client, the pet and the standing note on screen while it is still ringing. The AI receptionist is a separate $149 a month plus 40 cents a minute, and most salons never switch it on.

Moving two years of records

The honest one, and the question anyone on MoeGo actually asks first. MoeGo will import your history from a spreadsheet or a database file and will export your clients and pets to CSV whenever you like. Getting out of MoeGo is not the hard part.

Getting into Seglo is. Our only automated importer reads Square. From anything else a person here does it with you and checks it against your old system before you open. That is slower than pressing a button and it is the truth. If you want a migration you can run yourself on a Tuesday afternoon, we are not that yet.

What each one costs

MoeGo bills per location in United States dollars, so what you pay moves with the exchange rate every month, and the calling console sits behind the top tier and an invitation rather than a price.

Seglo is $49 a month to start, Australian, including GST, billed for the business rather than per location. Seglo Phone is $149 once and $79 a month with two devices, $29 for each device after, to five. Card processing runs through your own Stripe account and we take nothing on a booking.

Where MoeGo is the cheaper answer: if the phone was never the problem, you are paying us for something you will not use. Say so and stay where you are.

Which should you pick?

Stay on MoeGo

  • Vaccination expiry, certificates and incident logs are why you are shopping.
  • You want call recordings kept. We record voicemail and nothing else.
  • You want to move your own data yourself, without asking anyone.
  • The phone is not your problem, and bookings arrive online anyway.

Move to Seglo

  • The dryer is running for hours a day and the diary treats it as busy.
  • You want one number that takes the call and sends the photograph.
  • You are tired of paying a United States invoice per location.
  • Your accountant is on Xero.
