Seglo vs DaySmart Pet: who keeps the record, and who answers the phone
24 August 2026 · 5 min read
DaySmart has been building software for small businesses since 1998, and it shows in the filing: vaccination expiry, over fifty reports, boarding calendars. What it does not do is answer your phone, and it does not bill you in your own money.

Full disclosure: we build Seglo. So everything below is quoted from DaySmart’s own product pages, pricing page, newsroom and help centre, and dated. Where DaySmart is ahead of us it says so, with a whole section on it, and there is a paragraph further down telling you when to stay exactly where you are.

Where DaySmart Pet is the better answer
Start with the squares they win, because a company that has been at this since 1998 and counts “30 Thousand+ businesses across our verticals” has had a long time to fill in the boring ones.
Vaccination is the clearest. Their help centre says “The software will notify you that a vaccination is expiring 3 months before it expires”, requirements can be assigned “by both species and specific services”, and you attach the proof to the record. In Seglo, vaccination is a field on your intake form. It is recorded and searchable, and it does not expire, warn you, or hold a certificate.
Reporting is the second. Their site claims “over 50 reports”, and on any of them you “use Export to download a CSV, or Print to send to a printer or save as PDF”. Seglo shows you the numbers on screen and has no download button yet. Boarding and daycare are add-on calendars at $25 a month each. We do not do boarding at all.
Two hours on the dryer
This is the one place the two are built differently rather than featured differently, and it is where a grooming day is won or lost.
In DaySmart a groom is an appointment on a calendar. It starts, it ends, and the slot is held for the whole of it. In Seglo a service splits into steps, and a step that needs nobody is a rest step. The dog is on the dryer, the groomer is not, and those minutes go back into the day as time you can sell. We searched their help centre for drop-off grooming, staged services and processing time and found no evidence of any of it.
Skills work the same way here. The Seglo booking engine will not offer a doodle to someone who does not do doodles, so the calendar it hands you is one the shop can actually deliver. Multiply the dryer by five dogs and it stops being a feature and starts being a groomer.
And then the phone rings
DaySmart Pet does not answer the phone. We read the product page, the features page, the pricing page and the help centre, and found no calling product of any kind. The only phone numbers on their site are their own sales and support lines, all of them +1.
Their AI release of October 2025 is called Practical AI, and it shipped four tools: Daisy for veterinary visit notes, a Business Advisor that “translates data into clear, actionable decisions”, 24/7 Intelligent Customer Support, and an AI Description Generator. None of the four picks up a call.
Texting exists, but as a line item. Their pricing page lists Two-Way Texting as an add-on with “Contact for pricing”, and the help centre says it “is included in some plans and available as an add-on for others”. On sending an actual photograph of the finished dog we found no evidence either way. In Seglo the number on your shopfront rings inside the app, with the client, the pet and the standing note on screen while it is still ringing, and the groom goes back as a picture message from that same number. Why that is rare in Australia.
Your accountant, and the exchange rate
Search their help centre for Xero and it returns “We couldn’t find any articles for: xero.” Their accounting integration is QuickBooks Online, and their pricing page puts it on the Premium plan at $199 a month.
Seglo reconciles with Xero in both directions and the pay run exports into it. Prices are in Australian dollars with GST on the receipt, billed per business rather than per location. DaySmart bills in US dollars and by seats: Basic is one user, Deluxe three, Premium six, and every extra person is “$9/month each additional”. Their help centre does carry an article on how to “update your account’s displayed currency to match your business location and pricing”, which changes the symbol in front of your prices, not the currency of the invoice they send you.
What works here, and what does not
In May 2026 DaySmart acquired Slick, “one of the UK’s fastest-growing salon technology platforms”, and called it “a milestone in DaySmart’s global expansion”. The expansion went to Britain. Australia is not mentioned in the announcement.
In fairness, that does not mean the product will not work here. DaySmart Payments via Stripe does run in Australia: their help centre lists eftpos among the accepted card types and names Australia among the countries where surcharging is available. What is missing is the rest of it. There is no Australian number to ring, no invoice in the currency you earn in, and and every number on their site is a United States one. If you are moving off an old system their team will convert the file for you and “can convert data from most other programs”, which takes a few business days. Seglo automates the import from Square and does everything else with you by hand.
What each one costs
DaySmart Pet starts at $29 a month for one user if you take their payments, $39 if you do not, and runs to $199 for six users on Premium. The add-ons stack on top: Website Builder $15, Reputation Management $49, daycare and boarding $25 each, and Two-Way Texting and Text Marketing are both priced on request. All of it is in US dollars.
Seglo starts at $49 a month, Australian, including GST, for the business rather than the seat. Seglo Phone is $149 once and $79 a month with two devices, $29 a month for each device after that, up to five. The AI receptionist is a separate $149 a month plus 40 cents a minute, and most salons never switch it on.
Where DaySmart is cheaper for you: if you already have someone on the desk and the phone has never been the problem, you are paying us for something you will not use. Say so and stay put.
Which should you pick?
Stay on DaySmart Pet
- Vaccination expiry, certificates and species-level requirements are the reason you are shopping.
- You want a download button on every report, and there are over fifty of them.
- You run boarding or daycare alongside the grooming table.
- You are coming off an old system that is not Square, and you want their team to convert the file.
- You want the deposit taken before the dog arrives rather than a card held on file.
Move to Seglo
- The phone rings all day, everyone's hands are wet, and those calls are going nowhere.
- Your accountant is on Xero and you would rather not pay a US invoice in a currency you do not earn.
- Drying time is eating your day and you want those minutes back as bookable capacity.
- The finished dog should land on the owner's phone as a photograph, from your own business number.
