How should a grooming team record a split working day?

25 August 2026·1 min read

A split day shouldn't become one guessed total. Record each start, finish and unpaid break while the detail is current, including work done outside booked grooming time.

Set who corrects a missed entry and keep the original and adjustment traceable. Compare timesheets with the roster, but don't assume the roster proves the hours actually worked.

Use current payroll and workplace advice for the rules applying to your team.

Record each work period separately: 7:30–11:30 grooming, 11:30–1:00 unpaid break, 1:00–5:00 grooming, plus any required opening, messages, cleaning or training outside those blocks. An unpaid break must be a real break from work. Keep who changed an entry, the original value, reason and approval.

For a standalone grooming business, check the Fair Work Ombudsman's pet-groomer award guidance and current Miscellaneous Award/pay guide. Compare the timesheet with the roster, appointment trail and required off-calendar duties before payroll closes.

Seglo note: Multiple work periods can stay visible in staff timesheets.
