Turn off iMessage after moving your number
Moved your number from an iPhone to Seglo Phone? Turn off iMessage and FaceTime for it, or texts from iPhone users never reach the app.
Updated 14 October 2026
If your number used to live in an iPhone, Apple still has it down as an iMessage number after it moves to Seglo Phone. Until you turn that off, customers and staff who text you from an iPhone may be sending iMessages, not texts. Those go to Apple, not to your number, so they never reach the Seglo Phone app. The sender sees a blue bubble and has no idea you didn't get it.
Texts from Android phones, and normal phone calls, are not affected. Neither is anything you send from Seglo Phone. If the number was never in an iPhone, or you took a new 04 number from Seglo, there is nothing to do here.
Before the move: switch it off on the iPhone
Do this while the SIM or eSIM for the number is still in the iPhone, a day or so before the switchover.
- On the iPhone, open Settings → Apps → Messages and turn off iMessage. On older iPhones it's Settings → Messages.
- Open Settings → Apps → FaceTime and turn off FaceTime. Otherwise FaceTime calls to your number keep going to the old iPhone.
That's all. Once the number moves, iPhone users' messages arrive in Messages in the Seglo Phone app as ordinary texts.
Already moved: remove the number on Apple's website
No iPhone or SIM needed for this one. Do it as soon as you notice, because every iMessage sent to you until then goes missing.
- Open Apple's Deregister iMessage page.
- Under the section for when you no longer have your iPhone, enter your number and choose Send Code.
- Apple texts a code to your number. It arrives in Messages in the Seglo Phone app.
- Enter the code on Apple's page and choose Submit.
The code comes from a sender your team hasn't seen before, so anyone who can read your messages can see it. That's fine for this code, which only works on Apple's page. For codes you'd rather keep to yourself, see Receive verification codes.
If texts from iPhones still don't arrive
An iPhone that messaged you recently can take a while to catch up. If someone tells you they sent a message you never got:
- If their message shows Not Delivered, they can press and hold it and choose Send as Text Message.
- Ask them to delete your conversation on their iPhone and start a new one. That makes their iPhone check your number again.
Messages sent as iMessage before you turned it off don't come across to Seglo Phone. If you still have the old iPhone, they may be there.
