Getting started — setting up your booking site

How the onboarding wizard builds your booking site, what the Factor vs Fixed pricing choice means, how to share your booking link, and what the optional test booking does.

Updated 20 July 2026

When you sign up, Seglo builds a complete, ready-to-book site for your business before you type a single service name. You pick your industry, tick the service categories you offer, and Seglo seeds a polished booking page with curated services, photos, and pricing. Most owners are live in under 10 minutes.

How the wizard works

You make roughly four decisions and a result:

  1. Your business basics — name, industry, timezone.
  2. Your service categories — after picking your industry, Seglo shows a checklist of curated service categories for that industry (for example, grooming shows Full Groom, Bath & Tidy, and Add-ons). Tick the categories you offer. Seglo pre-fills matching services — with pricing, durations, and processing-time defaults — for only the categories you selected. You can tick as many or as few as you like, and adjust everything in the next step.
  3. Your services — a preview of the pre-filled service list (names, durations, prices), including whether each is Factor or Fixed priced (see below). This step is a preview only — fine-tune the list afterward in your Catalog.
  4. Opening hours — confirm or adjust.
  5. Booking rules — review the booking rules Seglo has pre-set for your industry (cancellation policy, buffer and lead times, and similar).
  6. Your details — address, contact info, your business description, and amenities. See below.
  7. Go live — publish your site, see your booking URL, optionally start a free trial.

Solo owners (no team members added) automatically become the first bookable staff member. The wizard skips the staff and roster steps entirely — your opening hours become your availability.

Multi-staff owners see an additional Your team step after hours, where they can add team members, assign services, and set working days.

Factor pricing vs Fixed pricing

Pricing model is set per service, not as a single business-wide choice — Seglo assigns each seeded service Factor or Fixed pricing based on your industry template, and you'll see the choice on the Your services step. This is reversible per-service at any time from your Catalog settings.

Fixed pricing — each service has one price (or a set of named variants). Best for businesses where "Bath & Brush — $40" covers it. The customer picks a service, you charge that price.

Factor pricing — the price adjusts based on something about the subject (a pet's size, a car's class, a property's bedroom count). Best when the same service costs more for a large dog than a small one. Grooming businesses default to Factor because size is the primary price driver. The wizard shows a real preview: Small / Medium / Large tier chips and an optional Matted coat surcharge, so you see exactly how the tiers will look before you commit.

If your business is grooming, Seglo pre-configures Factor pricing with Small / Medium / Large tiers and an optional Matted coat surcharge — you review and adjust the numbers, you don't set up tiers from scratch.

Your business description and amenities

The Your details step is where you add the content that makes your booking page feel complete to a first-time visitor. Two fields here populate the public page the moment you go live:

Business description — a short About blurb for your booking page. Seglo writes one for you automatically based on your business name, industry, suburb, and services, so the About section is never blank. You can edit it freely — once you change the text, Seglo stops updating it. To rewrite it later, go to Settings → Business Profile and click the pencil icon beside your name.

Amenities — a grid of 12 options (Free WiFi, Parking, Cards Accepted, and more). Tap any that apply to your premises. The ones you select appear as chips on your public booking page under the About section. Start with none selected and add only what's genuinely available.

Both fields are written to your booking page once, at first publish. If you re-enter the wizard and republish, your current settings-side values are not overwritten — use Settings to update them after you are live.

Before you publish, the Go live step shows your booking link as an editable handle — seglo.ai/@your-business-name — pre-filled from your business name. You can type a different handle and Seglo checks in real time whether it's available. Once you publish, the wizard reveals the final link along with a QR code and a copy button. This is the public link customers use to book with you. The site is live the moment you see this screen.

Choose carefully. You can change your handle later from Settings → Business Profile using Change link, but the switch is immediate and permanent: the old link stops working straight away, with no redirect, so anything you have already printed or shared will break.

You can always find your booking link again under Settings → Business Profile — it's shown on the Overview tab with copy, open, and QR icons.

Customers who open the link see your public booking page and can book any published service without logging into your account.

Starting your free trial

After the URL reveal, the wizard shows a Start 14-day free trial button (no card needed, cancel anytime). Tapping it activates the trial plan. You can also tap or pick a plan → to go directly to the plan selection page.

Starting the trial opens the business portal. Once you click "Start 14-day free trial", the portal dashboard becomes accessible. If you leave the wizard before starting a trial, you'll be redirected back to the plan selection page when you try to open the portal — your booking site is already live and accepting customers, but the owner dashboard requires an active trial or paid plan.

The optional test booking

At the end of the Go live step there is a Send yourself a test booking button. This creates a real appointment through your public booking page — the same path a customer uses — and sends a real confirmation notification. It is useful for checking your notification settings and seeing what the booking confirmation looks like.

Test bookings are marked internally so you can remove them in one action. If you skipped this during setup and want to test later, open any appointment on the schedule and look for the Delete test booking option, or contact support to clear test data.

After the wizard — what comes next

Once you are live, the wizard shows a "Go further" section — an informational list of optional features that make your setup richer. These are not links into settings — they are there to show you what the platform supports once you are inside the portal. None are required to take bookings:

  • Take deposits — require a deposit at booking
  • Appointment reminders — SMS / email reminders before each booking
  • Cancellation policy — set how far ahead customers must cancel
  • Buffer & lead times — gaps between appointments and minimum notice
  • Branding & your own photos — swap in your logo and real photos
  • Add your team — invite staff and set who does what
  • Import existing clients — bring your customer list across
  • Size-based pricing — charge more for larger or harder jobs
  • Intake & consent forms — collect details and signed waivers up front
  • Loyalty program — reward repeat clients automatically

These can all be configured from your dashboard once your trial is active.

Switching industry

If you change your industry selection during the wizard, Seglo will ask you to confirm. Switching industry takes you back to the category checklist for the new industry and replaces your current service list — any categories you ticked and any edits to the old services are discarded. Confirm only if you want a fresh start with the new template.

Constraints

  • The onboarding wizard is for the business owner role only, and only runs once (until onboardingCompleted is set).
  • Plan selection comes after the URL reveal, not before — your booking site goes live before the trial is started.
  • The booking site is not visible to customers until you reach the Go live step and publish.
  • The business portal (dashboard, schedule, settings) requires an active trial or paid plan. Staff members see a "contact your owner" page if the owner hasn't started a plan.
